1. Create an inter-disciplinary team using our partnership checklist.

  3. Learn about and build on other communities' success stories.
  4. Emphasize Safe Routes to School.
  5. Learn to be an effective advocate.
  6. Invite your elected official to take a walk with you in your neighborhood, to school or downtown.
  7. Download and use a walkability checklist or a bikeability checklist. These checklists help you create a written record of possible improvements.
  8. Slow down. Give children the freedom you enjoyed as a child!
  9. Look for and expect walkers every time you drive and yield to pedestrians.
  10. Transportation, land use and planning are public health issues, so get involved to make your community a nicer place to live, work, play and go to school.
